.5 Red Velvet
At the Truth & Dare event tonight, Ishle brought 2 dozen assorted cupcakes from the Buttercup Bake Shop. In celebration of the triple Gemini birthdays, we all sang at the end of the event, followed by massive cupcake consumption. Luckily, Anjali and i shared a Red Velvet cupcake beforehand (i also snagged one for Anmol, the originator of RV love) and it was quite tasty! Buttercup does make a good solid cupcake; the icing is light and sugary, the cake part is moist and flavorful.I thought Red Velvet cake was a Southern thing, but upon researching most people conclude that it was invented in New York City's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. However, there isn't a mention of it in their archives, only an urban legend concerning angry wrongly-charged recipe seekers.
But whatever the true origins, it's an unusual cake - brilliant deep red, chocolate flavored goodness with a fluffy white icing. Now i regret not eating another!
